Korean Traditional Board Game
The Korean stick-throwing board game families play together
Yutnori is played by throwing four wooden sticks, moving your pieces by whatever the sticks show, and racing all four of them off the board first. It has been a holiday game for families and neighbours from Lunar New Year through the first full moon.
It appears to have been played as early as the Silla period, and old Chinese records mention a similar game called jeopo in Baekje. It began as a New Year custom for divining the year's harvest and gradually became a game played for fun.
A widely known reading has do, gae, geol, yut and mo standing in turn for pig, dog, sheep, ox and horse.
Choose a strength and press the gauge to throw all four sticks. Move a piece by what you threw; capturing an opposing piece earns another throw. Your own pieces can ride together as one, and you win by bringing all four pieces home.
